Best practices to be followed while commissioning IQ 7G+

Points to note
  1. IQ 7G+ commissioning can only be done using ITK 3.0. Please download the latest app from the following links
  2. IQ 7G+ requires a special Envoy software that does not support communication with IQ 6 series, IQ 7, IQ 7+, IQ 7X or IQ 7A microinverters; and therefore, systems cannot have a mix of IQ 7G+ and other IQ inverter models on the same Envoy
  3. If you want to install a mixture of microinverters, make sure you have 2 Envoys in the system and all IQ 6 and IQ 7 series microinverter are associated with one Envoy and IQ 7G+ microinverters are associated with the second Envoy
  4. When adding IQ 7G+ microinverters in the Installer Toolkit, please make sure that you scan the QR code placed on the microinverter
  5. IQ7GPLUS is compatible only with Envoy firmware version 7.0.X or higher. Please make sure the Envoy is upgraded to the required version before provisioning
Envoy Software upgrade process

To commission IQ 7G+, Envoy software must be upgraded to 7.0.X version. Currently Envoy software upgrade process takes around 30 minutes to complete. We’ve come up with few alternatives which would help you reduce the commissioning time either by updating Envoy software remotely or by updating Envoy software in parallel to the hardware installation. You can choose one of the following methods:

Envoy update (via ITK) in parallel to hardware installation
  1. Install and turn on power to the Envoy (Work safely! Do not work on or near energized conductors)
  2. Launch Installer Toolkit app (ITK 3.0 or higher), under “Settings” verify that Envoy firmware files are UP TO DATE
  3. Open (or create) activation for the site
  4. Scan the Envoy and at least one IQ 7G+ microinverter (via QR code)
  5. Skip to “Envoy connectivity” step and connect to AP mode
  6. Connect Envoy to Wi-Fi or ethernet connection (mandatory)
  7. Start Envoy 7.0.X firmware upgrade process (from Installer Toolkit), allow update to complete (up to 30 minutes)
  8. Keep your phone near the Envoy for the entire update process
  9. While firmware is updating, finish the system installation
  10. Return to Installer Toolkit app, open site activation & check if the firmware is up-to date
  11. Scan remaining devices & continue with commissioning process
Envoy update (via ITK) in parallel to hardware installation
Envoy update (via Enlighten) in parallel to hardware installation
  7. Start Envoy 7.0.X firmware upgrade process (From Enlighten), enter your email ID to be notified when the update is complete
  8. Connect Installer Toolkit to internet to initiate the update process
  9. While firmware is updating, finish the system installation
  10. Once you receive the update success mail, return to Installer Toolkit app, open site activation & check if the firmware is up-to date
  11. Scan remaining devices & continue with commissioning process
Envoy update (via Enlighten) in parallel to hardware installation
Remote Envoy update from Enlighten
  1. Create/open activation in Enlighten Manager
  2. Enter Envoy details in the activation page (if new site)
  3. Retire existing IQ 6/IQ 7 series microinverters if commissioning a retrofit site (if you want to use same Envoy to install IQ 7G+)
  4. Ensure the selected Envoy is connected to Enlighten via Ethernet/Wi-Fi
  5. Select microinverter type as IQ 7G+ and initiate the upgrade process
  6. Go to the site & complete hardware installation on-site
  7. Continue with commissioning process
