Helping Installers Tackle Construction Constraints
Facility operations such as heating and cooling had Residential Aged Care provider Glenlyn feeling the pressure of ever-rising electricity bills. Looking for a solar solution, Glenlyn teamed up with EnviroGroup to install a system to power their residential facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Handle With Care
EnviroGroup, an Australian provider of renewable energy products and systems, took extra care in the design and installation processes of this project to ensure the standards for aged care facilities were met and exceeded. With Glenlyn residents remaining on premise, and the need for normal day-to-day activities to continue functioning, it was imperative to restrict power disruptions at all times.
The building’s unique construction restrictions also forced EnviroGroup to create a unique system designed specifically for Glenlyn. Because of the complex multi-faceted roof structure and limited room inside to store large central inverters, EnviroGroup picked Enphase microinverters to give their customer exactly what they needed.
“Glenlyn Aged Care Facility approached us with very specific requirements as they needed a solar system that could fit within the design of their rooftop, which has limited internal space to locate solar inverters,” said Cameron Munro, CEO of EnviroGroup. “Also, having residents in care, we had to com- plete the installation of the project within a very tight timeframe and without any interruptions to their power supply.
Providing Ease of Mind
Working within the highly regulated aged care environment, Glenlyn also required a system that could be closely measured to ensure protection of their investment. Enphase technology allowed individual panel monitoring to be met, in addition to providing alert emails in the event of output interruptions.
Maintaining a safe environment is key when it comes to installing solar on public buildings, and it’s definitely top of mind at Glenlyn Aged Care. The Enphase System was chosen not only for its extremely safe, low-voltage, all-AC design, but also for its ability to contain all equipment on the roof. On top of it all, the high output Yingli panels coupled with Enphase’s energy harvest boost was an added bonus that made Enphase and Yingli technology the right solution.
“With increasing electricity bills, solar power is a sensible alternative as it will help us to manage our operating costs and reduce Glenlyn’s impact on the environment,” said Nicole Sandhaus, manager of the Glenlyn Aged Care. “EnviroGroup took the time to understand our needs and delivered a solution that we believe will exceed our expectations.”
A Solar Success
Project restrictions forced EnviroGroup to complete their install as quickly as possible, and Enphase technology provided an easy- to-install approach that had installers in and out of Glenlyn within 10 days. During those 10 days, business continued to operated without any negative impact to residents or workers.
The 100kW install broke records – named the largest grid connected microinverter system in Australia and the entire Southern Hemisphere – and is expected to generate over 392kWh of solar energy daily.
